Many photo companies pay in one of three ways:
1. Pay per download - 90% of the time you will receive compensation everytime someone downloads one of your pix.
2. Pay Per Photo - A few companies will review your submissions upfront then pay you for each accepted picture.
3. Pay Per View - I have only come across a very few companies that will actually pay out based on the number of hits your photo gets.

While Fotolia does not specialize in any specific subject, they are seeking high quality marketable stock photography. Stock photography covers so many subjects, cultures, issues, concepts, and ideas. In addition stock photography is always changing. What was hot last year may not be hot this year. Stock photography is essentially a catalog of photos that a potential buyer may search to find just the right image for their marketing brochure, multimedia presentation, website, billboard or other project. Anyone can apply to become a photographer on iStockphoto. Contributors must read a short online tutorial by clicking on the "Upload Files" link, and then pass a short test based on this tutorial. After you have successfully completed the test, you are asked to submit 3 sample images, which are inspected by our inspection team.
